Tourism plays a large role in the Botswana economy. A number of national parks and game reserves, with their abundant wildlife and wetlands, are major tourist attractions. The wildlife, including lions, brown hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs and antelope, were described in great detail in the best-selling book "Cry of the Kalahari" by Mark and Delia Owens.

The main agricultural products in Botswana are livestock, sorghum, maize, millet, beans, sunflowers, and groundnuts.

The national flag of Botswana was adopted on September 30, 1966. The flag is light blue with a black horizontal band across the centre, with white fimbriation. The blue colour stands for water, specifically rain, and comes from the motto on the Botswana coat of arms, which states Pula, the Tswana word for "Let there be rain". The white and black bands stand for racial harmony, and also refer to the zebras that support the nation's coat of arms.

Did you know that Botswana is also the world's largest producer of diamonds and the trade has transformed it into a middle-income nation?
